Have you ever known some one who isn’t that smart and always gets into trouble for the things they do? Well I’m talking about Lennie from “Of Mice and Men.” Lennie is a guy who always gets into trouble but doesn’t mean to. He is very important in this story because he causes a lot of things to happen that aren’t good. They are all expressed through a few traits like childishness, slow-witted, and his strength.
Lennie always acts like a child. Lennie said, “look George, look what i done!” (page 3) because he was excited of what he had done. Every time Lennie saw something soft, he would want to touch hit or pet it as if it was an animal. For an example: Lennie didn’t want to give George the mouse. “I don’t know why i cant keep it. It ain’t nobody mouse I didn’t steal it. I found it lying right beside the road.” (page 9). When he was acting like this, it was more like a child saying that not a grown man.
Lennie always slurs his words when he talks and questions everything he says. So this makes Lennie slow-witted. “I wasn’t kicked in the head with no horse, was i George?” (page 23). He always asked Georgequestions over and over again. When George asked him a question, Lennie didn’t know what he was talking about. “Lennie looked startled and then in embarrassment and his face. against his knee.” “I forgotagain” Lennie said. Lennie never remembered anything George said, which always made George mad.
Lennie has showed in a lot of sense he is strong. “Curleys fist was swinging when Lennie reached for it. The next min curley was flopping like a fish on a line that was lost in Lennie’s hand.”Lennie’s strength always got him into trouble, which lead up to the death of Lennie. At the end of the story he kept hurting and killing people because he was so strong. He never meant to hurt anybody he just wasn’t smart to know what he had done.
Lennie’s three traits; childishness, slow-witted, and his strength all describe Lennie in different ways. All of these traits were important because he killed so many people and animals. George didn’t want him killing anymore people, so he killed him. So thought this analysis every body could identify Lennie as troubled.
